Featuring Rinze Wouda of Deathgression | Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl | 26-December 2008

Thanks Rinze Wouda that you have found time to give answers to these questions,so tell me a bit more about yourself, such as musical?
Well, i..m some fucked up entity with a big mouth making music:-)

Tell one secret about yourself or the band that you have never told to anyone?
Hmmm, it wouldn't be a secret anymore if i told you now hah??? Well... let me tell you this: All is nothing and nothing is all;-)

how and why did you come about starting Transgressor? what else inspires you to create?
What made me start Transgressor was a morbid interest in the horrors of World War 1, especially the Ieper saillant. There are so much parallels to life nowadays. The cruelty and the ignorance of the human race, that inspires me.

why your changed a other bandname Deathgression?
Because there already were other bands using that name.

Deathgression on Endzeit Bunkertracks [act IV]" very cool tell me about this and the future?
That..s very cool indeed. For a starting band it..s a very good way of getting publicity and which band doesn..t want to be on the Bunkertracks? Concerning the future: I..m not that ambitious and i..m not using my hobby to set some idiot goals and get disapointed and bitter at the end.I take it as it comes.

Let's talk about your full album - Battlefield Ethics (Debut) [Coming Soon in february 2009] where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? upcoming shows or anything else you're working on?
The concept came from the battlefields of the first world war and flattered out through history and the modern (western) world.End january we have some gigs in Holland and we..re busy planning some gigs in Germany.Meanwhile i..m working on new material.

How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album?
We..re working on that.

Can you tell us a bit more about the musical projects, bands and live leden MissD you were involved with prior to Deathgression?
I had several projects from noise, ambient to electrorock.I had a little success with that in Belgium. Then i started the project we..re talking about now for 2,5 years ago.MissD is my companion for life. She is doing the propaganda part and supports me on stage and keeps me from drinking too much;-)

What are your views on the current state of the electro scene in The Netherlands in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
At first i would like to say that i respect everyone making his/her music. I..m sorry to say that there is not that much going on in the Dutch scene, there is really a lack of creativity and guts.Grendl has a nice sound and has his well earned success with it.The audience is a bit to passive. The scene in Germany is a lot bigger and more alive and they really know how to make a party:-)

How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
Most of the times i start with a bass line or a lead riff. Then the rest of the composition is being weaved around it followed by some samples and lyrics.Sometimes i create a song around a text i already wrote. Most of the times it turns out to be very different then what i had in mind, that keeps it exiting:-)

Can you tell us a bit more about the Rigor Mortis,Home from AnimAdverto my name to their cd "TORMENT" (2007) tel me about this label?
The people of Rigor Mortis saw me playing live on a party. They approached me and were interested in releasing my debut. They offered me the chance to work together with Len Lemeire (Implant, 32Crash) who helped me out a lot. I..m very thankful to both Rigor Mortis and Len.

What is currently inspiring your material as an artist?
Life and other bitches;-)

How did you come up with the name of your band,Transgressor? and your new name Deathgression.
I came up with the name transgressor because i have always some trouble with the authorities.I have an abstract way of thinking that doesn..t fit into their system.I like to provoke and i cross the line many times. The name Deathgression sounds dark and aggressive and stands for my music.

If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
MissD is very sweet:-)xxx

What do you think of its intermingling with the electro, Darkwave and EBM scenes? while electro is your main musical pallet, what other music do you listen to?
This a very good thing.People shouldn..t be focused on one thing, where is the fun in that? Next to electro i listen to classical music, rock, folk, singer/songwriter and a lot more. Some favourites: Amber Asylum,Mondblut,Joy Division,Editors,Placebo,Tom Waits,Johny Cash.....

How long have you been in the music industry and how has it changed over time?
I..m active for about ten years now.For me it got better and better...live and learn....The music industry itself has collapsed the last years and has to find new ways now.

Are you working on any current or future projects?
Next to new deathgression i would like to start an ambient project but i really don..t have the time for that now:-(

It has been a pleasure to interview you on your musical activity,Well, any last words to your ebm-industrial fans? 29.01.2009 Groningen / 30.01.2009 Aalsmeer,Noord-Holland and what is next on the the Netherlands agenda?
These 2 shows are the only ones in Holland for the coming time.So i would like to say: "Take advantage of that, come out where ever you are and make some fucking party with us!!!"
